Teambuilding

Edgewood Consulting & Services facilitates teambuilding programs.  Different groups of individuals seek teambuilding for a variety of reasons; your group may need to get to know each other, bond, build trust, explore leadership qualities, boost morale, better interpersonal communication, take healthy risks, learn to rely on others, or meet some other goal.  A teambuilding facilitator can work with your group to better in some way a team that is already functioning well or can work with your group toward exploring, addressing, and fixing a problem existing within a team that is not functioning optimally.

Edgewood Consulting & Services does not have a teambuilding facility.  Edgewood Consulting & Services travels to you!  Teambuilding can be done indoors or outdoors and will require an appropriate space that is conducive to accommodate the group’s size, needs, and allow for moving around.  Large conference rooms, gymnasiums, grassy fields, and many other types of spaces can be used.  Under most circumstances our clients are responsible for providing the space themselves or arranging/renting a space off-site that is agreeable to all.  If you wish to schedule a teambuilding program but do not have adequate facilities for hosting the program, Edgewood Consulting & Services can provide you with a list of some alternative facilities in the New Paltz, NY area you can contact to inquire about renting/using. Some clients prefer teambuilding be done away from the workplace, while others find it logistically and financially easier to host onsite.

Teambuilding programs can be half day, full day or multi-day in length.  Teambuilding activities may involve games, contrived initiatives that require group problem solving, an indoor climbing wall, and low and/or high challenge (ropes) course elements.  Activities are debriefed with focused discussion in an effort to facilitate learning and growth toward specific group goals.  Should an indoor climbing wall or low and/or high challenge course elements be desired and appropriate, special arrangements will need to be made to rent a wall or course.

All our teambuilding programs operate under the philosophy of “Challenge by Choice” (a phrase coined by Project Adventure, Inc.) which means participants choose their level of challenge so they are healthily stretched out of their comfort zone.  Essentially, our participants are allowed to choose to what level they feel comfortable participating in exercises and activities.

Before You Participate:

Before you may participate, all individuals must complete and sign two forms – An Acknowledgement of Risks & Release of Claims form and a Medical History Questionnaire.  Forms can be downloaded off this website under the “Forms” main menu tab. Forms need to be mailed to and received by Edgewood Consulting & Services at least 10 days in advance of the teambuilding program unless other special arrangements have been made.

What to Bring:

  • Water
  • Any medication you may require
  • Snack or Lunch (depending on program length and arrangements)
  • Extra layer (fleece jacket or sweatshirt)
  • Raingear if program is outside
  • Hat/gloves/scarf if appropriate
  • An open mind and positive attitude!

Optional Extras:

  • Tissues
  • Camera
  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Lipbalm/Chapstick

How to Dress:

Comfortably! Casual!

Wear close-toed shoes (sneakers or boots).  Tevas, sandals and flip-flops are not acceptable!

Wear layers so you can take on and off as needed.

In the summer months feel free to wear cotton clothes that breathe and keep you cool.

In spring, fall and winter months especially, wear clothes made of polyester, polypro, silk, fleece and/or wool if your program is outdoors.  Avoid wearing all cotton when it is cool or cold outside; when moisture builds (when you sweat) cotton does not keep you warm.

Price/Cost:

It depends on a lot of factors!  Please call to inquire.  With some key details about your group and need, an estimate of cost can be provided for your review and consideration.

Cancellation Policy:

Preparation and planning is involved prior to offering a teambuilding program.  Cancellations made by clients two weeks or more before the program date will be entitled to a partial refund or full credit if rescheduled.  Cancellations made less than two weeks before the program date will not be refunded and any outstanding portion of the full program fee will be billed.  Edgewood Consulting & Services will expect to be fully reimbursed for any and all expenses incurred in preparation for the teambuilding program.

In the event that Edgewood Consulting & Services must cancel due to an emergency or extreme weather on the day of the program, full credit toward an identical teambuilding program will be granted.

Weather:

Weather forecasts are rarely 100% accurate.  In the event your teambuilding program is scheduled to be outdoors and the weather looks questionable for the day, please call Edgewood Consulting & Services (845) 255-7007 to ensure it is safe to proceed, if use of an alternate indoor location space can be arranged or if we’ll need to reschedule.  Edgewood Consulting & Services will make this determination.  If you have any doubt, please call to confirm.

Teambuilding outdoors in light or moderate rain is usually fine, as long as participants are wearing appropriate clothing to protect themselves from the elements, and will not require cancellation.  However, being outside in an electrical storm is not considered safe.  When scheduling an outdoor teambuilding program, it is always a good idea to make prior arrangements to have use of an alternate location (large open indoor space or pavilion) in the event of heavy rain or a passing thunder storm on the day of the program.

Some risk is involved with participating in a teambuilding program.
